Given the availability of cheap travel, whether cheap airplane tickets, discount hotel rooms, or discount travel packages, 2011 is a great time to visit Tokyo.



Visitors trying to decide whether to go to Japan should consider:



• The world’s newest gigantic supertower is scheduled to be completed this coming December and will be the world’s second tallest at 2,080 feet. Although the tower will not be open to the public until 2012, it is already attracting large numbers of tourists.



• The yen is projected, by Bloomberg Businessweek, to drop by at least 10 percent against the dollar, making things cheaper for U.S. tourists.



• Japan is where the latest new video games are released first. Most likely Nintendo’s new 3DS hardware unit will first be made available in Japan.



• Tokyo’s International Anime Fair is always a popular tourist destination.



• This year the greater Tokyo vicinity will host more music festivals than ever before including the Summer Sonic which will be headlined by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and The Strokes. Fans of dance music will want to check out the Big Beach Festival in June that will be headlined by Fatboy Slim and Carl Cox.




• Tokyo is an art lover’s favorite destination sporting such events as Roppongi Art Night, which has brought in more than 500,000 attendees annually. The Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography in Ebisu will sponsor the Yebisu International Festival for Art and Alternative Visions, a festival that focuses on how different forms of media interconnect in the art world.



• The new National Theater offers impressive ballet performances and recently hired one of Britain’s top choreographers and dancers to bring a more modern outlook to Tokyo’s ballet world.



• The latest Cirque du Soleil extravaganza kicks off in Tokyo in February. The show uses acrobatic performances to tell the story of the people a loner meets while making his way in the world.



• Tokyo’s motor show runs from November 30th to December 11th, and is expected to feature future greener cars.



• The 24th World Congress of Architecture meets in Tokyo in September and will be held at three of Tokyo’s most impressive architectural buildings: Tokyo International Forum, Yoyogi National Gymnasium and the National Olympics Memorial Youth Center.




• The Tokyo marathon will take place on February 27th and is increasingly becoming a major tourist draw. Participates in the 26 mile run include world record holder Haile Gebrselassie.



• Many experienced travelers view Tokyo as the "best city in the world." With its flashy new airport it is easier than ever to get to. Tokyo offers some of the best culinary delights around, maid cafes, cat cafes, rocking live houses, predictive vending machines, cutting edge fashion and snazzy taxis.
